Alpine cabin by the hamlet of Steg
The alpine cabin by the hamlet of Steg can be visited as part of a guided tour.
Built in 1855
A barn was initially built in a layered round timber construction. In 1896, a dairy room and milk cellar were added. In 2009, the cabin was relocated from its original site and placed under heritage protection.
Functionality
For life on the mountain pastures, farmers needed a cabin with both a dairy room and a stable. These were always constructed together under one roof and had similar layouts.
Accessibility
The alpine cabin is located 5.5 km from the Walser Museum next to the Chapel at the Steg-Kleinsteg junction. Limited parking is available. The public transport stop is about 200 metres away.
